Whitehirst Park Primary pupil Lauren Caldwell was selected as the 2014 Segdoune Queen, with Jenna Maitland from St Winning’s as her deputy. The rest of the Segdoune Royal Party members were revealed as Emma Hamilton from Pennyburn Primary, Erin Porter from Abbey Primary, Cerys McLean from St Luke’s, Stephanie Greenan from Corsehill Primary and Sam Todd from Blacklands.

An attempted murder investigation was launched after a house fire in Irvine. The incident occurred in Seaton Terrace shortly before 2am on Friday, March 14, 2014. Scottish Fire and Rescue Service crews carried out a search and rescue operation in the two-storey property to find a woman inside. She was rushed to Crosshouse Hospital where she was described as being in a stable condition after suffering from smoke inhalation.

An Irvine-born rugby star played for Italy in the 2014 Six Nations tournament. George Biagi, born to an Italian father and a Scottish mother made his debut for the Italian rugby union side against England in Rome. The 28-year-old was the nephew of North Ayrshire Council leader Willie Gibson.

Abbey Primary School stood up to bullies in 2014 as they held their own anti-bullying march. Pupils at the Kilwinning school, along with teachers and parents, marched from the school playground with banners to McGavin Park in order to get their message across.

Irvine Royal Academy pupils were enthralled as the Travelling Museum of British Inventions visited the school in 2014.

Talented kids at Pennyburn Primary showed off their musical skills as they learned all about string instruments.
