AN IRVINE nursery has opened the doors of a new community pantry to help locals fight the cost of living crisis.
And some of the kind-hearted children at the town's Treetops Nursery are also helping out - by making deliveries of food to their neighbours.
Treetops signed up to take part in the Fairshare scheme in their bid to help others across the community.
A Treetops spokesperson said on Facebook: "The nursery are now very pleased to share that we are part of the Fairshare scheme.
"This is for the community as a whole and not just the children and families who attend the nursery.
"The wastage of food in Scotland is currently very poor and we are hoping by being part of this scheme we can help reduce the amount of wastage in our country."
They added: "Please feel free to take any of what may be of use to you and make the most of helping us prevent food wastage and even bag yourself a little treat from time to time.
"All of the food we have out would be making its way to the bin - it’s much better if anyone could make use of this."
They continued: "Some of our children have been out a walk this morning and delivered a selection of our pantry food to some of our lovely neighbours. T
"The children made these packs up themselves and chose where to deliver them to.
"The children are really showing a keen interest in people who help us and how we can all help each other."
