BRILLIANT bikers from across Ayrshire have raised thousands for sick kids in the region.

Crosshouse Children’s Fund, the charity for Ayrshire’s babies and children in hospital, received an incredible donation of more than £3,300 from the Hillbillies MCC, following their annual Easter egg run on Saturday, March 30.

The Hillbillies, who celebrate their 25th anniversary this year, rode from Mauchline to Crosshouse Hospital, where the funds they raised will benefit young patients in the neonatal, maternity and children’s wards.

Over 100 bikers attended the ride, which was supported by other individuals from out with the club, and their were viewed in awe by children who gathered outside the hospital to welcome their fundraising heroes - and grab a few pictures too.

This is the 21st time that the Hillbillies have held the egg run, which is one of the numerous fundraising activities held year on year by the kind-hearted group.

In fact, this was the second time the club had supported the Crosshouse Children's Fund in March alone, after they a Rock Night fund-raiser a week earlier.

Members past and present were invited to celebrate the club’s silver anniversary and entry donations were collected for the fund.

Even more is still planned, with the Hillbillies set to hold a raffle for a restored Kawasaki KLR650 bike in the near future.

Rebekah McGinn, from the Crosshouse Children’s Fund, said: “Every Easter we are blown away by the immense generosity of Hillbillies MCC, and this year they have gone above and beyond.

“The joy on our young patients’ faces when they see the motorbikes approaching the hospital
exemplify how important this event is, and we are delighted to have the support of the Hillbillies in their special anniversary year.

“Thanks, also, to everyone who attended the rock night to raise even more funds for the babies and children of Ayrshire.”

Saturday's event also attracted support from several other motorcycle clubs, including the Ayr Classic Motorcycle Club, the Ayrshire Touring Motorcycle Club, the all-female Flaming Phoenix MCC, and Tiger MCC in Kilmarnock.

In a social media post a Hillbillies spokesperson said: "Thanks to everyone who came along to make it a success.

"A special thanks to the general public in Mauchline, Heather Clisset, Mauchline Kilmarnock FC Supporters' Club, Ross's gran, and Dayn Montgomery for their time and effort collecting and donating."

The Hillbillies club, which is based in Mauchline, was established in 1999 and still sticks to its founding aims of riding bikes, having a good time and supporting local charities.

The Easter egg run dates back to 2003, while the club is also a long-standing supporter of a range of local and national charities, including Combat Stress and Ayrshire Hospice.
