A Stewarton man has been jailed for attacking his partner with a wrench and fracturing her ankle.
Stuart Farquharson, 53, a prisoner at HMP Kilmarnock, pleaded guilty to two charges following the incident in the town's Lothian Road on November 15 last year.
He was charged with assaulting the woman and striking her on the body with a wrench, pushing her on the body and striking her on the head with an unknown object.
Farquharson also admitted to shouting, swearing, uttering offensive remarks, and brandishing both a wrench and a knife.
Speaking at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court, the Fiscal Depute explained that Farquharson and his partner had been in a relationship for 27 years and had three children together.
Both were at the address in Lothian Road with their son, who went out to a nearby shop. When he came back, the accused was under the influence of drugs.
Farquharson began to shout out, saying “I hope you f***ing die” to his partner. He then picked up a wrench and struck her on the body and legs.
He then picked up a long kitchen knife in one hand with the wrench in the other, before following the woman upstairs and striking her on the head with an unknown object.
The couple's daughter arrived and managed to get the accused out of the house and locked the door behind him.
Police were then called to reports of a break-in, and found Farquharson with injuries, before he was taken to Crosshouse Hospital.
Police were contacted again the following day to a report of a domestic assault and he was traced and arrested at the hospital.
The woman was also taken to hospital following the incident and x-rays showed that she had a fractured ankle.
Farquharson's defence solicitor told the court that he had been off drugs for four years but relapsed one week prior to the incident, which he had "little or no recollection of".
Sheriff Murdoch Mactaggart sentenced him to 18 months in prison when he returned for sentencing, backdated to November 20 last year.
He was also handed a Non Harassment Order by the court.
