This week, we take a look back at the big stories and pics from Irvine and Kilwinning back in April 2004.
Schools were back after the Easter break and were extremely busy, if this week's photos are anything to go by.
Can you spot any of your old classmates in these shots from 20 years ago?
Irvine children learned the hard facts about smoking at a special conference in April, 2004. A group off 33 youngsters representing eight primary schools went along to the hugely successful event at Irvine Royal Academy. The smoking cessation project was arranged to give pupils aged 10 to 13 advice and information about the dangers of smoking.
A group of baton twirlers from Kilwinning triumphed in the 2004 European Championships. Six girls from Jo’s Troupe battled it out against athletes from 10 other countries at the competition, which was held at the Meadowbank Sports Centre in Edinburgh. The dancers - Symone McEvoy, Alanna Dardas, Ashleigh McTaggart, Kim Couzin, Samantha Finnigan and Lauren Walker - all came home with a medal after finishing third in the team freestyle final, where they competed as Vision.
Irvine pupils put Central Ayrshire MP Brian Donohoe through his paces when he went back to school in April, 2004. The Labour man spent 90 minutes answering questions from the primary seven class at Loudoun Montgomery Primary when he took part in MP’s Back to School Day.
Ellie Starbuck (P1) and Thomas Cairns (P7) at St Luke’s Primary presented a cheque to Belinda Da Pratto Powell on behalf of Chest Heart and Stroke Scotland in April 2004.
Greenwood Academy Enterprise teacher June Donaldson and pupils Karen McFarlane, Aimee McMillan and David McLean handed over £260 to staff and patients at Crosshouse Hospital’s children’s ward in April 2004.
Children from Woodlands Primary paid a visit to Cunninghame House to meet with educational services committee chair councillor Peter McNamara in April, 2004. The P3/4 pupils also met North Ayrshire Council Drew Duncan in the council chambers. Youngsters from the school asked to visit the council HQ after grilling councillors John Carson and Tom Barr about council procedures.
