Former convenor of Irvine Incorporated Trades Ed Spence has been presented with honorary membership of the Incorporation of Weavers of Glasgow.
And the award was presented by his friend Scott Gallagher, the current Deacon of the Weavers in Glasgow and the Late Convener of Irvine Incorporated Trades.
The Glasgow Incorporation is one of the 16 crafts and organisations that make up the Trades House of Glasgow, and gives out annual charitable donations just short of one million pounds.
Deacon Scott will serve in his role until October this year. A 'choosing dinner' is held during each term where all the trades select their next in line for the main role.
And at his recent choosing dinner, amongst other awards being given out, Deacon Scott surprised Irvine's Ed Spence, by presenting him with the honorary membership of the Glasgow craft.
Ed was also presented with a gift last year at the Irvine Weavers annual Wee Pie in recognition of 60 years service to the Irvine organization, having first joined the craft in 1963, and serving as Deacon Convener in 1987.
Deacon Scott, who also represents the Irvine West ward for North Ayrshire Conservatives, said: "Since I first joined the Trades locally in 1997, Ed has always been a supporter of mine and a great encouragement to anything I have decided to pursue.
"As a token of gratitude, and as a mark of deep respect to the man, I took great delight in presenting him with honorary membership.
"He was certainly not expecting this, and it came as a great surprise to him.”
