Residents in Irvine's Rubie Crescent fear there could be a serious accident after traffic lights at the end of the road broke down.
Warning signs have been placed in both directions to alert drivers after North Ayrshire Council admitted the lights were "beyond repair".
One resident said: "The traffic lights at the top of Rubie Crescent have been out for about two to three weeks.
"There is going to be s serious accident if they are not fixed soon.
"People from the area have reported it to the council but there's no fix yet. They have put signs up to warn drivers from both directions they are not working.
"But some drivers stop to let you cross - and some don't."
A North Ayrshire Council spokesperson said: “The signals at Rubie Crescent are now beyond repair and new equipment has been purchased.
"It is anticipated that this installation will be completed by the contractor before the end of the month.
"We apologise for the inconvenience."
