Generous staff at an Irvine bank got on their bikes in May 2004 to help local pensioners. Twenty workers took part in a 50-mile sponsored cycle inside the Royal Bank of Scotland to clock up £1,000 for the Age Concern Drop-In. Pupils at an Irvine school joined in a national recitation of Wordsworth’s famous poem Daffodils in May 2004. The youngsters from Greenwood Academy wanted to take part in the event in aid of Marie Curie Cancer Care and help set a new world record.

Quiffs and leather jackets were out in force in May 2004 when staff at Asda in Irvine took a step back in time to hold a Grease night. Employees at the supermarket swapped the shopping trolleys for Summer Loving as they raised £250 for Yorkhill Hospital.

Children at Castlepark Primary School got their wish granted in 2004 when they started taking part in a cheer-leading class. P6 pupils had been pleading for the class and parent Jane Steer came to the rescue when she offered to take it.

Kilwinning children put their best feet forward to promote national Walk to School Week. The Blacklands Primary pupils stepped out in May to publicise the campaign, which aims to reverse the rising trend of children travelling to school by car.
