A man has been fined after admitting racially abusing police on Irvine Beach.
Lewis Holmes, 22, of Glenmuir Crescent in Glasgow, pleaded guilty to acting in a racially aggravated manner and swearing and shouting racist remarks on the beach near Harbour Street on June 3 last year.
Kilmarnock Sheriff Court heard how police were called to the beach at around 6.30pm after being informed that a number of youths were gathering there.
Upon their arrival, Holmes started shouting towards the officers, saying "I pay your f****** wages".
He then made a racist and offensive comment, and police informed him that a report would be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.
Holmes' lawyer told the court that the actions of his client were "wholly unacceptable", and that police should not be expected to suffer abuse.
They added: "He admits he was drunk at the time, his record is short but not impressive."
He was handed a £230 fine by Sheriff George Jamieson.
