DREGHORN is all set for its big gala day next month, with plenty of events planned during the build up.

The main event is set to take place on Saturday, June 15, though the fun of gala week will actually begin on Friday, June 7.

Last month, organisers confirmed that this year's King would be Callum Tait and the Queen for 2024 is to be Mya Cunningham.

Alongside attendants Rosie Russell and Jacob Forsyth, the local youngsters will play a major part in proceedings.

Though before they are crowned, those from the village and beyond are being invited along to celebrate a gala week, rather than just one day of events.

It all begins on Friday, June 7, with a 'pub vs pub' football tournament set to take place at Greenwood Academy from 6-8pm.

The fun will keep coming on Sunday, June 9, with a treasure hunt and barbecue planned to take place from 2-4pm at the Townend Community Centre. Entry to this will cost £1.

The following day (Monday, June 10) will see a fun run begin at 6pm, starting at the Dreghorn Library. All participants in the run will receive a medal.

On Tuesday, June 11, events return to the Townend Community Centre with kids bingo being held from 6-7pm. Entry will cost £1 and there will be a variety of games taking place.

Proceedings move to the Dreghorn and Springside church hall on Wednesday, June 12, where a beetle drive will be taking place from 6.30-7.30pm. There are prizes to be won for competing teams who finish in the top three places.

There is an event for the adults on Thursday, June 13, with bingo taking place at the Crown Inn from 7.30pm until late. There are plenty prizes to be won here too and entry will cost £10 per person.

Then Gala week will come to an end with the big day on Saturday, June 15.

Proceedings begin at 11am when the parade will leave the roundabout at the top of the village and make its way to the park at Dreghorn Primary School.

The royal party will then be crowned on the gala stage at 12pm.

There are more fun games to take place also with family races taking place at 1.30pm before a tug of war an hour later.

Throughout the day, there will also be funfair rides, inflatables, market and food stalls, arts and craft station and face painting available in the marquee for a small donation.

Those with tickets will then end the gala on a high with a ticketed family night at The Brae which is already a sell out.
