A MAJOR commuter road in North Ayrshire is currently closed.
A section of the A71 in Irvine was been shut off to road users on Monday, May 27, to allow for North Ayrshire Council to carry out essential carriageway improvement works.
The affected area of the busy commuter route connecting North and East Ayrshire is set to remain closed until 6pm on Sunday, June 9.
The road is closed eastbound at present, between the Warrix Interchange and Greenwood North Interchange on-slip, with a signed diversion in place.
To allow more commuters to plan ahead of time, we have created a simple map to show the best route around the closure.
Those approaching the Warrix Interchange who would typically exit for the A71 eastbound should instead take the opposite exit at this roundabout, for the A71 westbound.
From here, you should continue straight until you come to the Milgarholm Roundabout, where drivers should leave the roundabout right.
This will take you to the Annick Roundabout, where you should be diverted right, again, and onto the B7081.
You should continue on this road until you approach the next roundabout, where you will take the third exit for the B7080, Long Drive.
After this, you should quickly approach another roundabout where you take the first exit. This will bring you back on to the A71 eastbound where you can continue on your journey as usual.
