PLANS have been set out for the 80th anniversary of D-Day to be commemorated in Irvine - with the climax set to be the lighting of a beacon on the seafront.
The town's Coastwatch group has organised a special event to take place to honour the brave soldiers who took part in this important day in history.
Events will take place on the evening of Thursday, June 6, 80 years to the day since the Normandy landings, with plenty planned to take place across at the Coastwatch building and wider harbourside area.
The anniversary event will begin at 3pm, with the afternoon and evening set to feature community group stalls, face painting, balloon art, a mini fair, classic cars, emergency service vehicles, Sing along, dance groups, the local Rock Choir, and a portable football pitch.
More attractions have still to be confirmed.
There will also be a parade taking place along the harbourside, which will begin from the Maritime Museum at 8pm before concluding at the beach park.
Proceedings will begin to draw to a close after the beacon is lit at 9.15pm sharp.
