FOXES dug up bones in an historic Irvine churchyard earlier this week, it is understood.

The Times was alerted to the issue at the Irvine Old Parish Church grounds on Thursday, May 29, by local historian Billy Kerr.

He shared jarring images showing the scene after the animals visited the churchyard through the night, as discovered by local man Tommy Goddard.

But Billy was full of praise for North Ayrshire Council following their response to the issue.

After the local authority were alerted to the issue he said that they acted "immediately" to correct the situation.

A spokesperson for North Ayrshire Council said: “We were alerted to the incident on Thursday and a supervisor immediately visited the site to respectfully return it to its normal condition.”
