One of Ayrshire's top visitor attractions is set to host one of the UK's top radio discussion programmes.

The Scottish Maritime Museum on Irvine Harbourside is getting set to welcome BBC Radio 4's flagship topical discussion programme ‘Any Questions?’ on Friday, July 26.

Hosted by BBC political correspondent Alex Forsyth, the programme gives members of the public the opportunity to challenge four personalities drawn from the worlds of politics, business, science, arts and the media on the issues of the day.

The longest running live discussion programme in the UK, Any Questions? was first broadcast in October 1948, from the Guildhall in Winchester.

It will broadcast live on Radio 4 after the 8pm news bulletin.

The event is free and there are 120 tickets up for grabs, but booking will be on a first come, first served basis.

Guests can bring their question along on the night or write them on arrival. Those whose question is chosen will then read it out to the panel on air.

Christopher Woodland, commercial manager at the Scottish Maritime Museum, said: “We’re thrilled to be one of the venues across the UK chosen to host this enduringly popular national radio programme.

“The quality of the questions that members of the audience ask is at the heart of the success of the programme.

"We look forward to hearing the thoughts and ideas presented by our visitors, especially as the programme will take place just after the general election.”

Tickets can be booked through the Maritime museum’s website at scottishmaritimemuseum.org.
