IRVINE'S Bartonholm Recycling Centre is to be closed for the remainder of the today, Monday June 17.
It follows a fire at the waste site located on the B779 in the town.
North Ayrshire Council say emergency crews are currently battling the blaze.
It is not anticipated that the incident should affect the operations of the site beyond today - and the centre should be open as normal on Tuesday, June 18.
A North Ayrshire Council spokesperson said: "Due to a fire at Bartonholm Recycling Centre in Irvine we have closed the site for the remainder of the day.
"The fire service are in attendance and the site should be operational as normal tomorrow."
A spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service added: “We were alerted at 1.30pm on Monday, June 17, to reports of a piece of machinery on fire at Sandy Road, Irvine.
“Operations Control mobilised two appliances to the scene where crews extinguished the fire.
“Firefighters left after ensuring the area was made safe.”
