Carly Gilliland was crowned Springside Gala Queen in front of her adoring public in summer 2004. And despite the heavens opening, the Greenwood Academy girl was still the belle of the ball.
Drybridge residents rallied round for a woodland day with a historical twist in 2004. Villagers turned out in force to learn more about their history at Drybridge Woodland Group’s open day. Members of the group are pictured independent consultants Karen Chambers and Ann-Marie Culhane at the event.
Irvine artist Stephen Shankland won the prestigious BP Portrait Award in July 2004. And the 32-year-old was even more delighted that he won the prize for a portrait of his wife and son. Stephen painted The Miracle as a tribute to Kelly and Connor after the wee lad was born with a diaphragmatic hernia. He won the £25,000 prize and a £4,000 commission from the National Portrait Gallery.
Talented pupils from Loudoun Montgomery Primary created their own masterpieces during sessions with Glasgow company Impact Arts before the end of the 2004 term.
Animal lovers in Irvine had the chance to get up close and personal with some of their favourite creatures when the Ivybank Veterinary Surgery opened its doors to the public in summer 2004.
Local football star Julie Fleeting joined Provost Drew Duncan to launch the ClubGolf initiative at Kilwinning Sports Club in 2004.
