Irvine's Seagate Rotary Club looked back on another successful year as they held their annual general meeting on Monday.
President Hugh Hutchison reported on numerous activities ranging from the Marymass Hot Dog stall to the Primary Schools Quiz and the Xmas trees at the Portal.
Most recently, Seagate ran a bottle stall at the Ayrshire Babyloss Support fete in Eglinton Park, raising £500 for the charity.
Office bearers for the coming year were elected, and Hugh Hutchison continues as President with Pasan Gooneratne as Vice President. Secretary will be Andy Slater and Treasurer Billy Dickson.
Fiona Lee is responsible for Rotary Foundation. This is Rotary’s own worldwide charity doing major programmes such as End Polio, and also supporting local initiatives with grants.
On the subject of Polio, in the last year there were just 11 cases reported worldwide, down from 350,000 when the campaign started in 1988. Efforts continue to eradicate the remaining pockets of infection which are in Afghanistan and Pakistan.
Eric Greig looks after projects, including liaising with local schools for the Primary Schools Quiz and various Rotary sponsored individual challenges, such as the Rotary Young Musician and Rotary Young Chef competitions.
Seagate Rotary meets every Monday night at 7pm in the Riverside Lodge Hotel. The next speaker will be Ian Lawrence talking about Mindfulness.
