AMERICAN rock band The Killers and the North Ayrshire Table Tennis Club (NATTC) was probably quite low down on your list of likely collaborations - wasn't it?

However, exactly this came to fruition when the band came to Glasgow as part of their Rebel Diamonds tour last month.

While the NATTC were not quite on stage with the band, they certainly played a major role in the bands preparations for their OVO Hydro gigs.

It all came when club secretary Billy Main answered an SOS call from the band's manager on Tuesday, June 25 - the day before their opening night in Glasgow.

The band are avid table tennis players, and with three nights to play at the Hydro, they were hoping to unwind before going on stage with a few games of one of their favourite past times.

However, they did encounter an issue with this - they did not have a table. Clearly a major issue, that is where Billy and the NATTC came in to save the day.

Despite admitting that he initially thought the call from the band's manager had to be some sort of scam - the club duly provided.

Within hours of receiving the cry for help, the club had a table set up in their dressing room ready for the band's arrival.

And while the club were more than happy to help they were also given a show of appreciation from the band.

Billy explained: "The band are avid players and we're delighted having the table over the three days in Glasgow and the club were delighted to be invited guests during their time in Glasgow and on their guest list at their concerts.

"The club received a donation from them and now the table is on route to London for the rest of their UK tour."
