THE Irvine Clean Up Crew were back in action at the weekend, with volunteers removing 13 bags of litter from the beach.

And the group have revealed they'll be back in action soon, with two more clean ups of the town planned.

After Saturday's beach clean, a spokesperson said on Facebook: "It was a lovely morning for a beach clean.

"Thirteen volunteers cleared 13 bags of litter and a trolley from the beach and beach park. Well done to everyone who came and helped."

Their next event will be be a community litter pick in the town's Lamont Drive this Sunday, July 28 from 10-11.30am.

A spokesperson said: "We are heading back to Lamont Drive to give the area another tidy

"Come along and help us tidy up the riverbank in the Lamont Drive area. The more we can rescue here, the less is at risk of ending up in the sea.

"We'll meet at the wee playpark off Lamont Drive to hand out equipment and for safety briefing and then we can spread out from there.

"This area has plenty of pathways to work along, so if the kids want to come there is plenty they can help with without getting too close to the water. We'll have certificates and treats for them too.

"If you haven't come to a litter pick before, but would like to come along don't worry about not knowing anyone.

"We are friendly bunch and it's amazing how much conversation there is while you are pulling crisp packets out of the bushes.

"We've loads of equipment to borrow and we'll keep you right. We'd love to see you!

"We'd recommend long sleeves and trousers for this one due to the nettles and other jaggy plants."

The Clean Up Crew will also be carrying out another community beach clean up on Saturday, August 3 from 10-11.30am. All welcome.
