There will be no additional cost to the council after speed bumps were installed wrongly on a busy Stewarton road.

Speed bumps were installed on Cutstraw Road earlier this month during a five day closure, but it was discovered that they were outwith the required tolerance.

A new set of closures are now in effect, running between 8am and 5pm until Friday. Following concern from local residents, East Ayrshire Council has confirmed that there will be no additional cost for the remediation works.

A spokesperson said: "The Ayrshire Roads Alliance can confirm that the speed tables installed on Cutstraw Road, Stewarton, by the appointed contractor were found to be out-with the required tolerance.

"Further work has started to rectify these issues at no additional cost to East Ayrshire Council along with the installation of associated signage and road markings to further highlight the new traffic calming features.

"Works are programmed for completion within three days with the road fully re-opened thereafter.

"The Alliance apologises for any inconvenience this may cause."

Cutstraw Road will be closed from Wednesday, July 24 and Friday, July 26 between 8am and 5pm each day.

The road will be open outwith working hours, and access for residents, deliveries and pedestrians outwith the working zone will be maintained whenever possible and safe to do so.

An alternative route will be signed following Holm Street, Vennel Street, Main Street, High Street, Old Mill View, Robertland Rigg, Cutsburn Road, Cutsburn Brae and vice versa.
