The Scottish Maritime Museum in Irvine is launching a new series of informal and supportive sessions for parents of early years and primary school children.

The fun and relaxed sessions are designed to bring parents together to support each other and learn easy ways of helping with their child’s learning.

The weekly sessions, which will take place at the Museum on Irvine Harbourside between 10am – 2pm on Mondays, will run for six weeks from Monday, August 26.

The programme will include a fun DIY project and finish with a family celebration.

The numeracy sessions have been made possible by North Ayrshire Council and the UK Government through the Multiply numeracy programme, which is delivered through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.

Claire Munro, learning and access manager at the Scottish Maritime Museum, said: "We’re looking forward to welcoming local parents along to our relaxed and supportive session at the museum.

“It will be a fantastic opportunity for parents to meet other parents, share experiences and support each other as we explore how to use play to help children learn.

“Participants will also gain confidence in helping their child learn numbers through a fun DIY project led by our boat building team.

“Chatting with our boatbuilders, everyone will pick up how to budget for DIY projects before building something small for use in their home.

“Places are limited so we urge anyone who is interested in registering, or learning more, to get in touch soon.

“We are grateful to North Ayrshire Council and the UK Government through the Shared Prosperity Fund for enabling us to run the sessions and support parents across the community.”

Participants must be 19 years and over and have a child of early years or primary education age.

The UK Shared Prosperity Fund aims to improve pride in place and increase life chances across the UK investing in communities and place, supporting local business, and people and skills.
