THE Ayrshire Baby Loss Support charity is £500 better off thanks to the generosity of members of the public at an event in Kilwinning.
The charity, based at Crosshouse Hospital, attended a meeting of Irvine's Seagate Rotary to accept a donation from president Hugh Hutchison.
The money was raised from a bottle stall run by the Rotary club at a recent fete in Eglinton Park.
Speakers on Monday at Seagate Rotary were the club’s own Fiona Lee and David Wordsworth, talking about their experience marshalling at the Open Golf at Troon.
Irvine Golf Club were allocated control of the 17th hole, and 60 volunteers worked in five-hour shifts to cover the eight days of practice and competition.
This year, safety and security briefings were as important as basic crowd control. Marshalling outfits were stylish but neither wind or water-proof, and full dog walking gear was needed underneath to withstand the west coast weather.
There were numerous questions from the golfers in the audience and amused bafflement from those who do not understand what all the fuss is about.
A vote of thanks was proposed by Hugh Hutchison.
Seagate Rotary meets every Monday night at 7pm in the Riverside Lodge Hotel.
Next week's meeting will include the presentation of honorary membership to retired member Adam Moonie.
