The biggest event of the year in Irvine is fast approaching and Marymass will officially get underway with the traditional opening ceremony in the Townhouse on Thursday, August 15.

There, from 8pm will see the sashing of Queen-Elect Millie Barnes and her four Mary’s, Hannah Nelson, Lauren Wyllie, Autuaum Robinson and Lauren Wyllie.

The annual Carters’ Fourth Port Parade takes place on Saturday, August 17, from 12noon around the streets of Fullarton and Harbourside. Horses, carts, bands and fancy dress will be on show.

A toddler film club is at the Harbour Arts Centre on the same day, from 10am. The event is free but bookings must be made in advance.

Irvine Harbourside will host the Sea Cadets fun day from 12.30pm that same day.

A festival of light parade will leave Bridgegate at 9pm, arriving at Irvine Moor half an hour later and a fireworks display will be staged at the Moor from 9.45pm.

The traditional Kirkin' of the Captain of Irvine Carters’ Society is on Sunday, August 18, at 10.30am in Irvine Old Parish Church.

Wednesday, August 21 sees the Marymass Dog Show being held in the Volunteer Rooms at 7pm.

Among the other highlights are the Marymass football derby between Irvine Meadow and Irvine Victoria at Meadow Park on Friday, August 23, kick off 7pm.

The stylish Marymass horses will be judged at Golffields, from 9am on Marymass Saturday, August 24.

The Marymass parade will then leave Broomlands Drive at 10am and the Marmass  queen will be crowned at the Cross at noon.

Then the procession heads for the Moor for events including the return of the greasy pole, horse racing, free kids zone, live action jousting funfair, market, food vendors, live action music, beer tent, paddock area for horse racing and more.

The Marymass Flower Show is back after its successful return last year. It is being staged in the Volunteer Rooms on Monday,  August 26, at 12.30pm.
