AN ARDROSSAN man has appeared in court to face charges of assault and robbery after two woman were taken to hospital following an incident in Irvine.

Christopher Brown appeared in private at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court on August 14 after an incident in Beaton Terrace, in the early hours of the previous day.

The 36-year-old faces a charge of assault to injury and robbery, as well as a second charge of assault.

It's claimed he also drove a motor vehicle on a road or other public place without insurance and also without a licence.

The Crown also alleges that he was in possession of an offensive weapon and of a sharp or bladed implement and that he assaulted police.

The accused entered no plea to the charges during the private petition hearing.

He was committed for further examination and remanded in custody, and is due to appear again in eight days.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “At around 5.40am on Tuesday, August 13, we received a report of a disturbance in the Beaton Terrace area of Irvine.

“Officers attended and two women, aged 35 and 36, were taken to hospital for treatment.

“A 36-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with various offences and was due to appear at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court on Wednesday, August 14."
