An Ayrshire man has cycled 90km virtually in just one day in support of the Crosshouse Children's Fund.

Joe Fisher, from Irvine, decided to take on the charity's Around Arran in 30 Days challenge, which encouraged people to cover the distance across a month.

However, the 29-year-old decided to take things one step further by covering the whole distance in one day on his airbike.

Joe reveals the inspiration for his challenge was younger brother Kyle, who is linked with the charity.

He explained: "Unfortunately my youngest brother Kyle has spent a lot of time in hospital across his life and is currently three months into another stint.

"He and my parents have done tons of work for Crosshouse Children's Fund and I wanted to do my bit.

"I saw they were doing the 'Around Arran in 30 days' challenge which was to cover 90km in any way you choose and I signed up initially just thinking I'd do it in the 30 days and try and raise a wee bit of money.

"With Kyle having such a hard time just now I really just wanted to push myself to my limits as a tribute to him.

"So I looked at what gym equipment I have access too and chose the biggest challenge I had, which was to airbike the whole distance and do it in a day instead of the 30 days."

Joe admits that the challenge was "the hardest thing I've ever done", and took around six hours in total.

He said: "I didn't track my time strictly but based off of the data on the machine, it took about five and a half to six hours of actual bike time.

"We had fundraisers who came by to show their support so that gave me some natural breaks to refuel and hydrate.

"I know they aren't 100 per cent accurate but by the end of the day, my fitbit was saying I had burned through 7,000 calories."

Joe has raised over £1,000 for the charity to support its work, and his fundraiser is still open for anyone else wishing to donate.

He added: "I'm delighted with how much we've raised and how great a cause it will go to.

"Because of the nature of the challenge, I've had to be a bit obsessed with the physical preparation side of things so to be able to be on the other side of it now and see the result is amazing.

"I'm sure there will be bigger, faster, more fit people who could put my time to shame but this was all about pushing myself to do something way beyond what I've done before to raise as much as possible and I'm really proud of the result."
