A BOURTREEHILL lout caused more than £1,000 worth of damage after lobbing a rock at the windscreen of a bus in Dreghorn last year.
Cameron McGarry, of Moorfoot Way, put the driver of the stationary vehicle in danger during the terrifying incident at Corsehill Mount Road in January 2023.
The 20-year-old previously pleaded guilty to culpably and recklessly striking the window of the parked bus with a rock to the danger of the lieges and to the driver.
He also admitted to causing damage to the bus.
McGarry, who previously failed to appear at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court and had a warrant issued for his arrest, was in the dock for sentencing on Wednesday - with the court told that he believed the criminal matters would "disappear".
His defence solicitor said: “He hasn’t been ducking and diving.
"He put his head in the sand about everything in that time and the longer that matters drifted he naively believed that things would just disappear.”
The hearing was told that McGarry has an outstanding case that he is due to return to court for.
The lawyer told Sheriff Laura Mundell: “He tells me everything in his life has improved significantly.
"He knows he is on extremely thin ice but [I would ask that you] consider other options.
"He is under no illusions as to the position he is in."
The sheriff said: “You are very fortunate that I didn’t see you when you were arrested on a warrant in August.
“Knowing everything I know about the cases and all notes I have about you, I am not sure I would have granted you bail. That is not a criticism of the sheriff that made that decision.
“That is simply me telling you that if I had seen you that day I think I would have almost certainly remanded you into custody.
"However, I have take into account of the fact that you have been on bail since August and you are here today.
“You are only 20. You have not been in custody and your solicitor is telling me that you can abide by a curfew.”
Sentencing was deferred until October 14 for criminal justice social work reports, but McGarry was placed on a curfew with night-time restrictions in the meantime.
The sheriff added: “If anything goes wrong between now and then you will end up in custody.”
