AN IRVINE care home has had its staff rated ‘adequate’ after a surprise visit in August.

Cumbrae Lodge Care Home, operated by Four Seasons Healthcare, received an unannounced check from the Care Inspectorate from August 2-17, where it was graded on setting, planning, leadership, support, and staffing

The report stated that the planning and regular assessment of staffing needed some improvement to bring it fully in line with current guidance and rated it a three for adequate.

All other categories that it was inspected on were graded a four which means good.

These evaluations were based on feedback such as 55 completed questionnaires, interviewing staff and management, observing the daily routine, and speaking with friends and family.

The home is registered to provide a care home service to a maximum of 78 older people who may have dementia, associated mental health needs and behaviour that may be of a challenging nature.

At the time of inspection there were 66 residents living in the care home, which is located on Castlepark Road in Irvine.

In the future, inspectors advised that the home improves the regular assessment, planning and evaluation of staffing, and start taking account of the views of staff and people who use services and ensuring a structured, transparent and outcome focused approach to staffing.

A spokesperson for Four Seasons Healthcare said: “We are pleased with the latest Care Inspectorate report which rates Cumbrae Lodge as ‘Good’ in four of the five evaluation areas and demonstrates the home’s commitment to continuous improvement.

“We are committed to working with residents and their families and the local community to improve resident outcomes.  We are extremely proud of our team and their dedication to provide excellent care quality, by enriching the lives of our residents and making a difference together.”
