AN IRVINE supermarket is visiting primary schools to promote healthy eating in the local community.

Bourtreehill Supermarket has teamed up with the Scottish Grocers’ Foundation’s Healthy Living Programme to host their third giving back event of the year.

Children at Elderbank Primary School were provided a ‘Big Breakfast’ as part of the supermarket’s collaboration with the programme.

Imran Ali, owner of Bourtreehill Supermarket, said: “It was great to engage with the local school children, who we will continue to support further.

"We also provide water for every child on sports day. Over 1,200 children have benefited from our school's engagement.”

The purpose of the Big Breakfast is to educate students by introducing them to different fruits and vegetables and teach them about the importance of nutrition and having breakfast.

It also gives them an opportunity to learn about the importance of eating well and starting their day with a healthy breakfast.
