A MAN is in a "critical but stable condition" following a serious crash in Irvine.
A woman was also taken to hospital with serious injuries following the incident on Towerlands Road, between the B7081 Main Street in Dreghorn and Heatherstane Way, on Thursday, September 26.
The road was closed for six hours following the crash and police are now appealing for anyone who may have more information to come forward.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 1.35pm, a red Vauxhall Corsa crashed into a tree on Towerlands Road, between B7081 Main Street in Dreghorn and Heatherstane Way, Irvine.
"The driver of the car, a 24-year-old-man, was taken to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital where he is described as being in a critical but stable condition.
"The passenger, a 27-year-old woman, was taken to Crosshouse hospital in Kilmarnock with serious injuries."
While Sergeant Brian Simpson added: “Our enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances of this incident.
"I would urge anyone who witnessed the crash, stopped to assist, or who has any information that may help us to please contact us.
“I would also ask anyone who was driving on Towerlands Road round the time to review any dashcam footage and get in touch if it holds anything relevant."
