A PERSON has been taken to hospital following an early morning crash on a busy Kilwinning road.
Services were called to the scene on Pennyburn Road at around 9.30am on Friday, October 4.
It followed a collision between two vehicles on the route at its junction with the mini-roundabout along Stevenston Road.
Images of the scene had been shared on social media shortly after the incident, showing at least six emergency vehicles in the area - two fire appliances, police cars and ambulances.
The Scottish Ambulance Service (SAS) have since confirmed two specialist crews were sent to the collision.
This resulted in one person being taken to Crosshouse Hospital.
A SAS spokesperson said: “We received a call at 9.34am to attend a two-car road traffic collision on Pennyburn Road, Kilwinning.
"Two ambulances and two special operations response teams (SORT) were dispatched to the scene. One patient was transported to Crosshouse Hospital.”
A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson added: “We were alerted at 9.39am on Friday, October 4, to reports of a collision involving two vehicles at Pennyburn Road, Kilwinning, near to the Stevenston Road junction.
“Operations control mobilised two fire appliances and firefighters assisted emergency service partners at the scene.
“One casualty was in the care of the Scottish Ambulance Service.
“Crews left the scene after ensuring the area was made safe.”
Police Scotland have been approached for comment.
