IRVINE'S Nancy Bennett celebrated her 100th birthday last week - in the same home where her mum marked her own centenary more than 30 years ago.
Both women received their royal telegrams for reaching such incredible milestones - Nancy from the King and her mum Agnes from the late Queen.
Both cards arrived at the beautiful family home in Roselea, in Castle Street, where the family have lived since 1961.
In fact, the house played a key role in the family's lives even before they moved in. The previous owner Mason Watson ran his jewellery store from the property - and it was there where Nancy's late husband Jack purchased his bride-to-be's engagement ring.
Both worked at the former Tupperware factory in the town.
Ayrshire-born Nancy, who is remarkably fit and healthy for a lady who has just turned 100, said: "I feel as if I'm only 70.
"In her later years, my mother spent her time with her five daughters and she was living here with me when she celebrated her 100th birthday. She lived until she was 103.
"It's quite remarkable that I'm celebrating my 100th in the same home."
Nancy, who has four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, enjoys knitting and spending time tending tomatoes in her delightful garden at the townhouse.
She's also partial to an occasional brandy at bedtime.
Daughter Kay, 72, said: "We had around 60 family members at mum's birthday party at Irvine Bogside Golf Club, including her sister Jane McCutcheon, who travelled from Spain at the age of 95. It was a lovely event."
Educated at Kilmarnock Academy, Nancy grew up around Stewarton and Overton before moving to Irvine when she wed Jack and spent some time working for ICI.
Congratulations to Nancy on her remarkable birthday achievement - and here's to many more to come.
