A MAN has been fined after being found guilty of careless driving in Kilwinning.
Christopher Young was ordered to pay £470 and handed eight penalty points when he appeared at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court on Tuesday, October 15.
It follows an incident on Irvine Road in the town, on November 10 of last year, where it was found that Young performed a "close pass" on a group of cyclists.
Following the verdict, Sergeant Scott Gourlay of Greater Glasgow's roads policing urged people to be "considerate and respectful" of the safety of all road users.
He said: “Driving in this manner puts other road users at risk and will not be tolerated.
“When passing a cyclist, you should ensure that you allow sufficient time and distance to do so without compromising their safety, as well as making sure you can see far enough ahead to know it is safe to complete the overtake.
“All road users have a right to be there and it is vital that everyone is considerate and respectful of each other’s safety.
"Anyone with information or concerns regarding cyclist safety, or any other road policing matter, can contact Police Scotland through 101.”
