A KILWINNING woman has opened a sensory and play hub for children and young adults with additional support needs (ASN).

Life's Little Rainbows on Longford Avenue, founded by Tracy Maguire, had its grand opening on Saturday, October 19.

Tracy is a dance teacher and owns The Dance Depot in Kilwinning, where she runs multiple classes.

The new facility is a sensory and play hub (Image: Emma Tricker) She's been teaching dance for 30 years and has been based at her Ardrossan location for 13 years.

Earlier this year she started offering ASN dance classes after one of her students, five year old Emilie-Rose Tricker, didn't suit the mainstream style of teaching.

She then decided to set up Life's Little Rainbows after talking to parents about the lack of activities for their children.

Tracy said: "What do these parents do after 3pm? I looked about and saw the facilities that were available in Ayrshire for children and young adults with ASN and it's just so limited.

The hub is right next to Tracy's dance school (Image: Tracy Maguire) "The opportunity came up to have the unit right next door to the Dance Depot and I thought, let's look into this and see if I can provide a safe space for people with additional support needs."

The new facility had its opening from 11am to 2pm on Saturday, where it was attended by a large crowd of adults, carers, and children.

Inside the hub is a safety trampoline, sensory toys, swing, sensory areas, and specialised lighting.

Tracy is even attending a course on Saturday, October 26 to learn about rebound therapy for the hub.

Tracy hopes that the hub will be a safe haven for young people with ASN (Image: Emma Tricker) She added: "Personally, I'm just trying to do the best I can but they have just been so overwhelmed and grateful that I’ve provided this opportunity and it's really humbling.

"All the parents have been an inspiration because from an outside perspective they're just absolutely amazing people who are just trying to fight to give their child the best opportunities that they possibly can."

Life's Little Rainbows is open seven days a week, from 10am - 8pm on weekdays, and from 10am - 2pm on weekends.
