AN IRVINE primary school's parent council have urged caution during what has been branded "such a scary time".

The representatives from Woodlands shared a message via social media amid concerns regarding the behaviour of a man towards children around the school.

Earlier this week, we reported that fears had been aired online about a male in the Herbertson Crescent and Donaldson Drive area of the town on Monday, October 21.

A post made by a local mother on social media claimed that her child and two friends had been walking home from school when they were approached by an unknown male.

They said that this person "asked them to go into his house to see his puppies". The kids, who were left "terrified" by the incident, refused to do.

Police Scotland say their enquiries into the incident are ongoing at this time.

The school parent council say they are now looking to arrange further discussions with officers, and urged parents to "keep your wits about you".

Their statement read: "We all know this is such a scary time. I have spoken with police for them to try and set me up a meeting with them so we can discuss further what they are going to do to protect our children.

"All I ask is if you can bear with us for them to call me and set a time and date. Which may take a little time to get organised.

"We honestly feel your fear. Please don't think we don't. However, we at the parent council do not have anymore information other than the police have been making a presence around the school.

"All I can say is to keep your wits about your surroundings, do not walk alone and if and when possible have an adult with them. If you work and are unable to do pick ups and drop offs please speak to a friend and make arrangements if they can help.

"We need to just support each other through this and stand as a community against this man."
