AN ARDROSSAN man is being held in custody after an alleged serious assault in Irvine town centre.

Ryan Martin made no plea to a pair of charges when he appeared at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court on Wednesday, October 30.

He faced allegations of assault to severe injury and possession of an offensive weapon when he appeared for a private petition hearing.

The 37-year-old had previously been arrested in connection with an alleged serious assault in the Bank Street area of Irvine on Monday night, October 28.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 8.40pm on Monday, October 28, 2024, police received a report of the serious assault of a 32-year-old man in the Bank Street area of Irvine.

"The man was conveyed to Crosshouse Hospital for treatment.

"A 37-year-old man was arrested and charged in connection with the incident."

Following the accused's court appearance, he was committed for further examination and remanded in custody.

He is due to return to the dock in the coming days.
