NORTH Ayrshire Council's Provost has handed over a welcome donation to the team behind Irvine's Marymass Festival.
Provost Anthea Dickson presented the cheque for £912 to members of the festival committee following a fundraising effort at her reception at the event in August.
Those who attended the reception were asked to contribute a donation to the festival - generating the fantastic cash amount.
The total was the highest sum ever achieved at the reception for the annual event.
The funds will help towards ensuring another spectacular Marymass in 2025, and the Provost is now encouraging other local groups and community organisations to lend their support too.
She said: “Marymass is without doubt one of the best community festivals in Scotland and it’s an honour and privilege to play a small part in it each year.
“But it would not be possible without the hard work and fundraising activities of those volunteers working tirelessly behind the scenes to make it a reality.
“Although this year’s festival has successfully wrapped up for another year, work has already begun preparing for next year’s event.
“It’s a year-round operation and the Marymass Committee is always looking for support, both practical and financial.
“So while this money will play a part in helping to ensure next year’s festival is another success, I would ask anyone – both groups and individuals - who can offer their services and financial backing to do so.
"The work never stops for a festival as large and popular at Marymass so all fundraising will be warmly welcomed.”
The donation was handed over to two of the festival's 'leading lights' - Danny Kerr and Laura Potter - and was gratefully received.
Laura commented: “We are very grateful to the Provost for this kind donation towards the Marymass Festival.
"As with many community festivals, we face a real challenge in securing the funding required in order to ensure the festival continues to survive.
“The festival is organised entirely by volunteers who work all year round to fundraise, plan and organise the festival.
"Marymass is a festival for the community, and we would welcome any financial help and support offered by businesses and organisations."
