PLANS to build nine new homes on 'vacant grassland' in Irvine have been revealed.
Cairn Housing Association has applied to North Ayrshire Council for permission to build a mix of one, two, and three bedroom houses with parking and gardens on Redburn Place.
The site used to have four-storey flats that were owned by Cairn Housing Association and ANCHO before they were knocked down in the 2010s.
The nine homes will be divided into three blocks.
Block one will have three three-bedroom family homes, each with a back garden, block two will have three one-bedroom homes designed for older people with easy-to-access landscaping and block three will have three two-bedroom homes for families.
A total of 15 parking spaces will be provided to help with local parking issues.
The development will focus on being low-carbon and will aim for a 'Silver Active' energy efficiency rating.
The properties will have air-source heat pumps, solar panels, and tall windows to make the most of the sun's energy.
The buildings will be designed and built to be as environmentally friendly as possible with a communal garden provided for residents, which will also encourage social interaction among families and older people.
All gardens will be private and semi-private, with front gardens protected by brick walls for added security and privacy.
Cairn Housing and architects Hypostyle held a public consultation on May 16 at the Redburn Community Centre and the public's feedback was taken into account in the final design.
People wanted more privacy, fewer places for people to loiter, and less on-street parking.
The architectural style of the homes will feature sustainable materials, with brick facades, concrete roof tiles, and unique window features for each house type.
The houses are positioned to make the most of the sun's energy, which should help reduce energy costs.
The site is conveniently located near bus stops and walkable pathways to amenities on Kilwinning Road.
