FURTHER details have been revealed for a planned new 'bowling alley' in Irvine.

Proposals for the entertainment venue were first unveiled in June when a planning application was brought forward for the former M&Co store on Bridgegate.

The plans looked to create a new facility within the premises which included the introduction of a ten pin bowling alley, a golf simulator, a karaoke room, a snooker/pool hall, and a public bar with external seating.

North Ayrshire Council planning chiefs gave the green light to the proposals one month later.

The creation of this new premises has now progressed further with an application submitted to the authority's licensing board seeking permission for a provisional premises licence for the on and off-sales of alcohol.

Further documents associated with the application have now been made available - ahead of the board meeting on Monday, December 2 - revealing details of how 'Pops Bar' will operate.

The venue, which can hold up to 450 people, would seek to operate from 8am, serving breakfast and non-alcoholic drinks.

The applicant aims to sell alcohol onsite from 10am-12am from Sunday to Thursday. The bar is hoping to gain permission to operate until 2am on Friday and Saturday nights.

If approved, off-sales would be permitted from 10am-10pm at the premises.

Documents, submitted by Pops Bar, add: "Hours requested from 10am to accommodate shift workers and tourists visiting Irvine, staying in local accommodation businesses.

"Hours requested to be extended for one hour on a Friday and Saturday until 2am as a late-night venue to accommodate for couples and customer age groups not wanting to visit a nightclub where vertical drinking is prevalent and seating is limited.

"Also, for tourists visiting and staying in local accommodation businesses. This would encourage tourists to book and stay in Irvine instead of going out-with the town.

"This would also encourage use of local restaurants and any new business coming into the area and possible sale and use of nearby empty properties.

"There would be no entry after 12.30am. I believe that this would discourage customers from drinking excessively at closing time as there would be no rush and believe that customers would gradually leave at the appropriate time for them."

It is added that, to the rear of the premises, there will be a four-lane bowling alley within.

This area will include seating and "family orientated entertainment" such as a pool table, shuffle board, golf simulator room, karaoke room and other associated games.

The front of the premises will be the bar area, which will serve the rear area when required, and the upstairs.

The front of the premises will have various seating and table arrangements as well as various large screen televisions.

Upstairs is a similar layout and size but with more storage areas. It will predominately be used as a members club pool/snooker hall.

The staff room will also be located here along with the bar cellar and access from the rear loading bay situated in the car park with its own loading bay.

It is intended that the front outside area would provide for a place for smoking and for customers with dogs.

The licence sought would cover all of these areas which would be serviced only from the downstairs bar.

Children and young people will be permitted access to the venue to use the bowling alley and associated facilities as well as the members' pool/snooker club. Kids aged 0-15 must be accompanied by an adult.

All those who are under the age of 18 will need to leave the premises at 10pm - unless attending a private function.

Ahead of the licensing board meeting, one public complaint was received with regards to the application.

It stated: "Where is the parking for this establishment as parking is already severely limited?

"The area of Kirkgate and Hill Street is a conservation area but the volume of vehicles trying to park there is getting ridiculous leaving council tax paying residents with no where to park and loads of people parked illegally so surely this has to be taken into consideration."

No objections or comments were made by the police, fire service, health board or any other relevant authority.

However, board members have been asked to consider their policy on overprovision when making a decision next week.
