With exam results have been released across Scotland last week, I want to take this opportunity to congratulate every student in North Ayrshire for their hard work and dedication.

These results mark an important milestone in your educational journey, and your commitment and perseverance through what has been a challenging few years are truly commendable. You should all be proud of what you have accomplished.

This year, North Ayrshire schools have demonstrated remarkable resilience and success. Across our region, pupils have achieved impressive results in their National 5, Higher, and Advanced Higher exams.

Their success is a testament not only to their own efforts, but also to the dedication of our teachers, support staff, and parents who have supported them every step of the way.

The hard work of those school staff and parents who have dedicated themselves to the learning of their pupils is something that is far too often overlooked when it comes to results day, and they deserve our recognition and thanks.

Of course, there will also be those pupils who are disappointed with their exam results, those who have worked hard all year and have maybe missed out on that key grade by a mark or two.

But every journey is valuable, and the skills and knowledge you have gained during your school years will serve as the foundation for your future endeavours, whatever your results.

As we celebrate these achievements, it is also important to recognise that exams are just one part of your journey.

We need to show young people that the path to success doesn’t just run through the traditional routes of exams and universities. Whether it be through apprenticeships, learning on the job, or even starting your own business, success lies wherever hard work and aspiration will take you.

In addition to celebrating our students' accomplishments, I would like to take this opportunity to share some personal news. As many of you may have heard, I have recently announced my decision to stand for the leadership of the Scottish Conservative Party.

This decision is rooted in my belief that my party needs to change in order to focus on delivering for the people of Scotland with policies that reflect the needs and aspirations of communities like ours in North Ayrshire.

Whatever the outcome of the contest, however, my first and foremost job will always remain being a steadfast advocate for the West Scotland region and its residents

As with all MSPs, the most important job I have is to stand up for my constituents and help them in any way I can, assisted by a great team who help me on casework. Whether it be standing up for our local ferry services, schools, or helping constituents navigate local public services, my priority is to ensure that your voices are heard at the highest levels of government.

To all the students who received their results this week, I say again: congratulations. Whatever your grades, there is no limit to what comes next!
