IRVINE Meadow have tonight (Wednesday September 6) confirmed that manager Kevin Deeney has resigned from his role.
In a statement released by the club this evening they confirmed that they accepted his resignation "with regret" as they wished him well for the future.
The announcement comes one day after their 1-0 league defeat away to Gartcairn.
A club representative said: “It is with regret that the Irvine Meadow committee have accepted Kevin Deeney’s resignation as first team manager as of tonight.
"The club would like to thank Kevin for his efforts at Irvine Meadow and wish him well in future endeavours.”
Deeney departs the club after seven months in the Meadow Park hotseat.
He first moved into the role in a temporary basis after the shock resignation of George Grierson in February of this year before eventually being appointed on a permanent capacity.
Prior to this, Deeney had acted as assistant to Grierson who was appointed into the role in September of 2022.
He now becomes the fourth manager to resign from the role at Irvine Meadow in the space of a year.
In addition to Deeney and Grierson, co-managers Colin Spence and James Latta resigned almost exactly a year ago today.
Deeney leaves Meadow only six games into the current West of Scotland Football League Premier Division season with the North Ayrshire outfit sitting in last position. Though at this early stage, their one win and one draw, alongside four losses, sees them sitting only two points below safety.
While last season, he helped guide the Meadow Park side to an impressive top half finish as they wound up in eighth position in what was a hotly contested league.
Former Irvine Meadow captain, and the club's current under 20s manager, Ben Carson will take charge of the side on an interim basis for the team being.
His first match at the helm will be a tough test at home to 2021/22 Premier Division champions Darvel on Saturday, September 9, which kicks off at 2pm at Meadow Park.
No further details have been confirmed at this early stage with regards to a permanent managerial appointment.
