IRVINE Rugby Club have remained on course for earning their spot at one of the biggest days in the Scottish Rugby Union calendar.
The Marress side earned their place in the final of the West Regional Bowl this weekend with a comfortable win over Birkmyre on Saturday.
Resurgent of late, Irvine currently top the West Division 3 standings and headed into the match full of confidence after a 10-match winning run which included a 23-7 victory over their opponents in the league in December.
That certainly showed on Saturday with the home side, who had beaten Moffat and Lanark & Clydesdale in their first two ties in the competition, running out resounding 27-0 winners to extend their unbeaten run and earn their spot in the regional final.
They will now face off against West 3 rivals Lochaber this Saturday, March 9 - and victory could lead to even greater things for Irvine later this year.
The winners of the regional bowl will join the victorious sides from Scotland's other three regions - Caledonia, Caledonia North and East - in the semi-finals of the National Bowl.
The semi-finals will take place on Saturday, April 13, with the winners earning a place in the final to be played on Silver Saturday - finals day for all of Scottish Rugby Union's knockout competitions.
This will take place at the Murrayfield Campus in Edinburgh on April 27, with the Bowl final taking place on the DAM Health Stadium, adjacent to the home of Scottish rugby.
Saturday will be a major step for Irvine who will more than fancy their chances of making their way to the showpiece event.
