FRANCE'S Louka Mourin triumphed in the Scottish Boys' Championship at Irvine Golf Club - after a battle with one of his fellow countrymen on the final day.
An incredibly challenging week, with wet and blustery conditions, meant no player in the field finished under par when play drew to a close on Friday evening.
A field of 144 players had set out two days earlier, with only one of the three local competitors, Royal Troon's Scott Newman, making the cut.
One round of 18 holes on Wednesday and another on Thursday were followed by the top 40 players, plus ties, doing battle over 36 holes on Friday, with Newman finishing in a tie for 40th at 24 over par alongside Dunbar's Kiron Gribble.
After Friday's first round it was France's Alexandre Godin who was the man to catch at two under after he carded 71, 70 and 70.
Morin went into the final round seven shots adrift of his fellow countryman after rounds of 75, 68 and 75, but a two-under par 69 on Friday afternoon propelled him into contention.
Godin, meanwhile, paid the price for a 77 in his final round, with Godin catching and then overtaking his countryman in a nail-biting finish on the 18th hole to triumph by one shot.
England's William Partner completed the podium on 290, three behind the winner, while the leading Scot was Cameron Mukherjee of Loretto School in Edinburgh, who carded a 291 to finish the best of three players on seven over par.
Newman's Royal Troon clubmate Connor Wills missed the cut after carding a total of 156 from his two rounds on Wednesday and Thursday, while Sean Hillis of Kilmarnock Barassie also failed to make it through to the final day's play after scores of 85 and 77.
