SILVER Saturday beckons for Irvine Rugby Club's talented crop of players.

The Marress side earned their spot at the biggest day of club fixtures in Scottish rugby's calendar after victory in the National Bowl semi-final on Saturday - but they had to dig deep to do it.

Edinburgh Northern were the opponents at the Irvine Community Sports Club on Saturday as both sides set their sights on a spot at the grand final at the Hive Stadium, the home of Edinburgh Rugby, adjacent to Murrayfield.

The two sides had earned their place after winning their respective Regional Bowl competitions, with Irvine beating Lochaber 30-7 and Edinburgh Northern seeing off Earlston 38-10.

And it was Irvine who managed to get the better of their opposition in Saturday's semi-final as they triumphed 17-5 in a challenging match played in even tougher conditions.

The home side recovered from an early start and got into their stride to eventually gain the upper hand and earn a place at Silver Saturday on April 27.

They will face Blairgowrie RFC in the showpiece final, which will kick off at 11am.

The Perthshire club earned their place after defeating Ross Sutherland 17-12 in the national semi-final and Glenrothes 21-13 in the final of the Caledonia (Midlands) regional competition.

The club will be running a bus to the match which will leave Irvine at 8.30am before returning from Edinburgh at 3pm.

Tickets for the bus will cost £15 for adults and £7.50 for under 18s.

Tickets for this can be purchased by messaging Irvine Rugby Club on Facebook.

Seats must be booked on the bus by Sunday, April 21.

Match tickets must also be purchased prior to Silver Saturday with more information available online at scottishrugby.org/silver-saturday-tickets-streaming-details-finalised/.
