IRVINE Meadow's development squad have been crowned league champions.
The young side sealed the deal on Friday, May 3, courtesy of a 5-0 win over their Cumnock Juniors counterparts at the Kilwinning Football Academy Park.
While 2023-24 has been a challenging one for the Medda senior team, it's been an outstanding season in Conference D of the West of Scotland Football Development League for the club's youngsters.
Led by current first team head coach Ben Carson, the team secured the championship with a game to spare.
They have seen out stiff competition from various other Ayrshire clubs' development sides - with Darvel pushing them all the way.
The Medda youngsters' win over Cumnock gave them an unassailable 13-point lead over their rivals from Recreation Park.
They've won all but two of their league fixtures, with just one defeat - away to Bonnyton Thistle in November - and a 2-2 draw away to Dalry Thistle in March on their record.
They've also scored 83 goals, an average of nearly four per game, and have the best defensive record in the division, with just 26 goals conceded.
Testament to their performances this season has been the number of players from the side who have already began pressing for first team places.
And while it may have been a season to forget for Medda's seniors, whose relegation from the WOSFL Premier Division was confirmed last month, the success of their development side suggests the future looks bright for the club.
