Irvine footballer Erin Cuthbert has been named as one of six contenders for the Women's PFA Player of the Year award.

She's one of three Chelsea players nominated for the major award, alongside Lauren James and Niahm Charles. Manchester City trio Yui Hasegawa, Lauren Hemp and Khadija Shaw make up the rest of the shortlist.

Scotland star Erin's consistent performances in the Chelsea midfield as they won the Premier League title year was recognised by her fellow players.

The midfielder, 26, dubbed 'Little Miss Messi' from a young age, joined the London club from Glasgow City in 2016. 

She has gone on to win countless trophies in her time there and play at some of the world's biggest stadiums. 

Erin said last year: "I love playing for the club. When you love it so much and when you have such an affinity to the club, you want to do everything you can every single day and that is certainly how I feel."

She has already appeared 67 times for Scotland, scoring 22 goals.
