THE rugby union season is now well underway for clubs across Ayrshire competing in both the men's and women's competitions.
It has been a mixed bag so far, with a number of sides competing at the top end of the league table - while others are yet to get fully into their stride.
In the top league, the National Premiership, it has been a perfect start for Ayr RFC who have seen their first team boosted by many former Ayrshire Bulls players.
They have three wins from three so far - with a 82-0 victory at home to Musselburgh RFC meaning they top the table by virtue of points difference.
Troon's Marr RFC had won one and lost one of their opening two fixtures heading into this weekend.
They added a rare draw to their tally on Saturday, September 14, when they played out a thrilling match against Glasgow Hawks which ended 24-24.
Further down the National leagues, in Division Three, Garnock RFC have got up and running after their second consecutive promotion last season.
After drawing their first match of the season, they got back to winning ways this weekend with a hard fought, high scoring win over Aberdeen Grammar Rugby.
The match ended 46-43 in favour of Garnock who sit in third position at this early stage.
Ayrshire's newest National league side are Ardrossan Accies, who earned promotion into Division Four after winning every league game in the top West Region division last season.
Andrew Duncan's side have continued where they left off this season, winning both of their opening two fixtures.
They top the table on points difference after two matches following a 37-18 win away to Linlithgow Rugby Club on Saturday.
In the West Region leagues, Division One is currently topped by Kilmarnock RFC who have got their season off to a fantastic start.
They made it four wins from four matches on Saturday with a resounding 104-0 win at home to Dalziel RFC.
It has been a mixed start to the season for Cumnock RFC, who had won one and lost two of their opening three fixtures heading into Saturday.
Unfortunately for the East Ayrshire side, they tasted defeat again on Saturday with Lenzie RFC running out 41-14 winners in Kirkintilloch.
In Division Two, Carrick RFC have continued to press at the top end of the table after a hard fought 29-22 win at home to Waysiders/Drumpellier RFC.
The Maybole side have won three and lost one of their opening four fixtures of the league season.
Newly promoted Irvine RFC have taken to life in the league well so far, and picked up their first win on Saturday as they defeated Birkmyre RFC 18-17.
With two losses and a draw in their previous matches, the club currently sit in mid-table.
Into the women's leagues and Ayr RFC have had a tough start to their West Region Division One season.
They had no game this weekend though have lost their opening three fixtures of the season - and they will look to get back on track away to Hillhead Jordanhill 2XV next weekend.
In Division Two, it has been a great start for Irvine RFC who made it two wins from two in Saturday with a 43-25 victory away at Cartha Queens Park RFC 2nd XV. Only points difference is keeping them off top spot.
And in Division Three, after tasting defeat last week, Marr RFC got back to winning ways with a strong 36-24 win at home to Dumfries Saints RFC.
