THE Irvine Sharks kept their incredible winning run intact this week - denting the title hopes of their nearest challengers in the process.
The Greenwood Academy based side topped the Strathclyde League Basketball Association Division Two table heading into their fixture away to the Glasgow Eagles on Monday, November 18.
The North Ayrshire outfit remain the team to catch after a nail-biting 66-64 win saw them extend their lead atop the standings - and continue their perfect run of seven wins and no losses this season.
With their opponents sitting in second position, the Sharks knew there was a high chance their perfect league record so far this season could come under attack.
Early signs looked positive for the visitors who started on top before the Eagles fought back with some impressive shooting from beyond the ark.
The Sharks then pulled together as a unit, playing particularly strong defence, to get back into the lead.
They were led by Abs Senghor - who was unstoppable in the paint - and the consistent scoring of Ian Johnstone and Scott Frew.
However, another run of hot scoring from the Eagles tied the game up in the fourth quarter as the match headed towards its conclusion.
A timeout and well executed play produced a timely bucket for the Sharks to take a two-point lead heading into the final play.
Chris McCallum then clamped down defensively to ensure the Eagles did not convert from the last shot and the Sharks swim off with another win.
Abs Senghor top scored for the Sharks with 29 points, followed by Ian Johnstone with 12, and Scott Frew added 10 points.
